Policies and Terms of Service
This document sets forth the policies and terms that apply to all students of Foundry Writing & Pre-College Services LLC ("Foundry Writing"). By enrolling in our services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these policies and terms. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must sign on your behalf.
1. Scope of Services
Foundry Writing provides tutoring, mentoring, and consulting services in writing, college admissions, and pre-college preparation. Our services are designed to help students develop their own thinking, strengthen writing skills, and improve their application strategies. We do not write essays or applications on behalf of students.
2. Academic Integrity and Use of AI Tools
-
Using artificial intelligence (AI) to write for you in any academic context, including college applications, is considered academic misconduct by many institutions.
-
Students found using AI to write on their behalf may be dropped from our program without refund.
-
Foundry Writing’s mission is to teach students how to write, which has long-term cognitive benefits beyond producing a finished piece.
-
Permitted AI use: Students may use AI tools for brainstorming, gathering research, finding synonyms, seeking isolated translation help, or clarifying questions.
-
Any use of AI that replaces a student’s own authorship is prohibited. Students should understand that AI-generated writing is typically easy for experienced professionals and admissions officers to detect.
3. Student Conduct
-
Students and families agree to provide accurate and up-to-date information needed for scheduling and instruction.
-
Foundry Writing maintains a supportive and respectful environment. Disruptive, disrespectful, or dishonest behavior may result in discontinuation of services without refund.
4. Payment and Refund Policy
-
All sessions must be paid in full before class time.
-
Prepaid sessions are nonrefundable. At Foundry’s sole discretion and subject to availability, unused sessions may be converted to future credit.
-
Cancellations made less than 24 hours before a scheduled session will result in forfeiture of payment.
-
Certain services, such as strategic coaching or specialized consulting, are billed at a separate, higher rate. Pricing details will be communicated before booking.
-
Foundry reserves the right to adjust prices for any service at any time. Clients will be notified before future sessions are scheduled under new rates.
5. Exclusivity of Writing Coaching
-
Students may not retain multiple ongoing writing coaches for the same essay. Conflicting feedback disrupts the learning process and undermines results.
-
Students may:
-
Work with a separate counselor for strategy or overall planning.
-
Work with other coaches on entirely separate essays.
-
Seek one-time, isolated feedback from others.
-
-
Students who maintain simultaneous coaches on the same essay may be dropped from our program.
6. Data Backup Responsibility
-
Foundry maintains internal backups of student work for operational purposes but does not guarantee long-term storage.
-
Students are solely responsible for keeping their own secure backups of all critical writing. Foundry is not liable for loss of data or drafts, regardless of cause.
7. Service Limitations and Guarantees
-
Foundry provides guidance and educational support only. We do not guarantee admission to any college, university, high school, summer program, or other opportunity.
-
Students and families agree to hold Foundry Writing harmless for any admissions decisions or outcomes. No legal action or claim for damages may be brought against Foundry relating to any application process or academic result.
8. Intellectual Property
-
Materials, handouts, feedback, and proprietary methodologies provided during sessions remain the intellectual property of Foundry Writing. They may not be reproduced, shared, or used outside the context of our services without written permission.
9. Limitation of Liability
-
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Foundry Writing, its owners, employees, and affiliates are not liable for any damages, losses, or consequences arising from use of our services. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Rejection or deferral from academic programs.
-
Accusations of plagiarism or academic misconduct.
-
Loss of opportunity, income, reputation, or academic standing.
-
Data loss, emotional distress, or other claims.
-
-
All guidance is advisory in nature, and students accept full responsibility for how they use it.
10. Termination of Services
-
Foundry reserves the right to discontinue services at any time, for any reason or for no reason, with or without explanation.
-
Clients may terminate services with reasonable notice. All outstanding fees must be paid in full upon termination.
11. Changes to Policies and Terms
-
Foundry may update these policies and terms at any time. Continued enrollment and use of services constitutes acceptance of any changes. Clients are encouraged to review these terms periodically.
12. Governing Law
-
These policies and terms are governed by the laws of Washington State, USA.
